Indirect Rollover Deadline
The 60-day rollover rule requires that funds distributed from a retirement account via an indirect rollover be redeposited into a qualifying retirement account within 60 days of receipt.
Missing this window causes the entire distribution to be treated as taxable income, and potentially subject to an early withdrawal penalty as well — even if the money was always intended to stay in a retirement account.
If the rollover check comes to you instead of going directly account-to-account, the clock starts ticking — you've got 60 days to get that money into a new retirement account, or the IRS treats it like you cashed out.
Direct vs. indirect rollovers, and how to avoid this mistake entirely.
