Full Retirement Age

FRA

Full Retirement Age is the age at which a person becomes eligible to receive 100% of their calculated Social Security benefit — 67 for most people born in 1960 or later, with slightly earlier ages for those born before that.

Claiming before FRA permanently reduces the monthly benefit. Claiming after FRA, up to age 70, permanently increases it.

In Plain English

It's the age where you get your full, un-reduced Social Security check — not too early, not too late. Everything before or after that age changes the math.
