Special Enrollment Period

SEP (Health Coverage)

A Special Enrollment Period is a window outside the standard annual open enrollment during which someone can enroll in or change health coverage, triggered by a qualifying life event.

In Plain English

If you lose coverage, get married, have a baby, or move, you usually get about 60 days to enroll in a new health plan without waiting for the next open enrollment.
